WHAT IS BINAURAL AUDIO

Immerse yourself in binaural audio by putting on your headphones and enjoying this brief demonstration.

Binaural audio is a method of recording and reproducing sound that creates a 3D stereo sound sensation for the listener. This technique mimics the way our ears naturally hear the world around us, providing a sense of spatial awareness that standard audio cannot achieve.

HOW IT WORKS

NOT BINAURAL BEATS

Worth noting is that binaural audio is distinctly different from binaural beats. Binaural audio is an audio format (like mp3, WAV, AIFF), while binaural beats refers to a specific application of binaural audio that involves playing slightly different frequencies in each ear. The brain interprets these differences as a third, fluctuating frequency, known as the binaural beat. This effect can influence brainwave activity and is often used for purposes like relaxation, focus, meditation, and sleep.

Binaural beats has a psychoacoustic audio effect theorized to be able to entrain different states of electrical activity in the brainwave cycle, which in turn might entrain different states of awareness.

Both binaural audio and binaural beats offer unique and valuable experiences. As a meditation and deep listening practice binaural audio has the power to immerse you in a realistic soundscape.

BINAURAL AUDIO IN SOUND MEDITATION

The Overtone app was crafted to enhance the sound meditation experience, aiming to replicate the sensation of being physically present in the room while honoring the spatial and dimensional qualities of sound.

Utilizing a mannequin head outfitted with two microphones located in its ears, the recording captures sound by considering head-masking and ear spacing, which allows for sound localization in a three-dimensional environment. When you listen to the playback through headphones, it feels as though you are seated in the room with us, with the singing bowl gracefully moving around your head.

Thanks to binaural audio, professional sound meditation is now accessible from anywhere.
